Ocean Park Association Board Election 2018

The following individuals are running for open director seats. All have met the criteria of residency and membership. All candidates had given a statement about their qualifications to be on the board and while this is NOT an official ballot, it will give you an opportunity to “get to know” each one a bit better.

Marc Morgenstern: Marc returned to the board in 2018 after going back to school and completing an MFA degree in creative writing. Previously, he served on the board from 2013-2016 as secretary. He currently sits on the Main Street Committee, where he has spearheaded the Main Street Rewards card with our local merchants and is currently focusing on making streets such as Neilson Way safer for pedestrians, cyclists, eScooter riders and motorists. Marc believes that the more OPA develops partnerships with other organizations and the city, the stronger our neighborhood can be.

Marc hails from the east coast (where he worked for CBS for many years), but has lived in Ocean Park almost twelve years. He's a graduate of Yale College and Santa Monica's own Citizen University. Following his passion for reading and writing, Marc is also the Chair of the Santa Monica Public Library Board and spends as much time as possible at our Ocean Park branch.

He believes that in times like these, OPA can be a beacon of civility and good will.

Kate Kennedy – (incumbent) Since joining the Ocean Park Association, Kate has become an active participant by attending meetings, serving as the Vice President of the Board for the past two years, and volunteering at events including the Main Street 4th of July Parade and National Night Out and many more!

Kate, the daughter of a lobsterman, was raised in a small town on the coast of Maine, and knows first-hand how special it is to live by the ocean. Growing up, she frequently attended town hall meetings with her father and volunteered at various community fundraisers and events with her mother. That sense of community and civic duty is still an integral part of her life here on the West Coast. Kate has been living in the Ocean Park neighborhood for over 15 years. She is passionate about local issues and challenges facing the Ocean Park community. Working as a residential Realtor Kate knows first hand the complexities of living in the Greater Los Angeles area. She loves bringing her enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to the board to help keep Santa Monica moving forward, while retaining everything that makes our beach town the best!

Evan Meyer – (incumbent) Evan is the current President of the Ocean Park Association. Previously as Vice President he's been responsible for: restructuring/redesigning our web presence and communications efforts to most effectively drive the OPA mission, engage our community, increase our reach, and deliver community info easily, accessibly and timely; invigorated new community music day efforts; built our new 4th of July parade website.

Evan leverages his skill-sets from his broad range of impactful, community based work for our own neighborhood, such as: Founder/COO - RideAmigos.com, a traffic reducing software platform that helps government agencies understand commuter habits and make intelligent transportation-based investments; Founder/ED - BeautifyEarth.org, a 501(C)3 non-profit that began here in Santa Monica as "Beautify Lincoln", which transforms neglected communities/streets through public art and murals, art education, and community engagement. It has brought over 50 new murals to Santa Monica, and spearheaded our city's new utility box art program.

Evan loves the outdoors, is a master of creative projects, and an avid artist/musician.

Jodi Summers – (incumbent) Jodi Summers is seeking her 4th term with the Ocean Park Association. Currently acting as secretary, Jodi has been active in the Ocean Park community since moving here more than 20 years ago.

What she loves about Ocean Park is hearing and seeing the ocean, the optimistic attitude of the people and the sun setting into the Pacific Ocean. She believes that we live in one of the best neighborhoods in the country. Its proximity to beach, business and shopping make it perfectly situated for her active lifestyle.

Jodi is proud to serve her neighborhood on the Ocean Park Association and be a voice for her community.
